On 15th – 16th August the top-level Russian-US delegations, which included President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of the United States Donald Trump, held a summit at the US Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. After the summit meeting, the Russian President laid flowers at the graves of Soviet soldiers in Fort Richardson National Cemetery, which is located in the territory of Elmendorf–Richardson military base.

On August 15, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' held a Moleben (a prayer service) "for the successful beginning of any good endeavor" in the house church of the Patriarchal Residence in Chisty Pereulok, Moscow, dedicated to the Icon of the Mother of God of Vladimir. The service was held on the eve of the meeting between the President of Russia, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, and the President of the United States, Donald Trump, in Alaska.
